>> Message to the Volunteers WWOOF International and WWOOFing In Nepal
An introduction for farmers, students and people interested in international agro/organic farming and gardening
What is WWOOFing..? WWOOF stands for "world wide opportunities on organic farms". Since 1971 thousands of farmers all over the world have decided to join "WWOOF international" . WWOOF international is an INGO that support the development of organic agriculture by building a network of farmers that are involved in Organic/sustainable Agriculture. With this network WWOOF international (www.internationalwwoof.org or www.wwoof.org) wants to give the opportunity to farmers to receive volunteers from all over the world, young and old and interested in Organic/sustainable Agriculture, to work voluntarily on their farms. Members (farmers, volunteers) of WWOOF international have access to a list of international farmers where they find all the necessary information to make contact and arrangements concerning their WWOOFing period. The basic principle of WWOOFing is that a farmer provides room and board to the volunteer in exchange for this help on the farm. WWOOFing gives the unique opportunity to learn about farming techniques, different countries and cultures and to meet interesting people in an indigenous way. Who & what is WWOOF Nepal.. ? WWOOF Nepal is a multi purpose agro-volunteer project, a sister organization of the international WWOOF network that has been to coordinating a volunteer program in the field of sustainable agriculture in Nepal. WWOOF Nepal is a part of a worldwide effort to link volunteers with progressive farmers, promote an educational exchange and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices. Since 2003 WWOOF Nepal has been a registered NGO (non-government organization) with an Administration Office of Kathmandu. Mr. Fanindra Datta Regmi active in the field of agriculture or intercultural exchange program is the founder and coordinator WWOOF Nepal. The coordination team of WWOOF Nepal decided to start an experimental introduction period for "WWOOFing Opportunities in Nepal" during 2005-2007. During this experimental period WWOOF Nepal built the foundation of a regular WWOOF organization, a list of Nepalese farmers involved in sustainable agriculture and interested in receiving international volunteers (see www.wwoof.org, www.wwoof.nz) . On the way WWOOF Nepal hopes to meet enthusiastic farmers, development workers, etc... With practical knowledge and experience to join in the organization and work together on the future possibilities, and towards an extension of WWOOF Nepal. WWOOF Nepal also organizes introduction meetings for farmers in the region. In course of time WWOOF Nepal will give concrete information about WWOOFing, WWOOF international and WWOOF Nepal's progress towards the future. WWOOF Nepal will also provide the information for farmers or volunteers to join the in the organization. Please let us know if you are interested to become a host or volunteers.
