What Other People Have to Say About WWOOFing in Nepal From Maia from New Zealand who was in Nepal from October to December 2004: 'I came to Nepal after 8 months of traveling through South East Asia and it has been so great to meet Fanindra and his family. They have been so welcoming and I have learnt so much from my time with them. WWOOFing has been such a good way to meet Nepali people who aren't connected with the tourist industry and to see how people live in rural areas. I was lucky enough to be in Nepal during the festival of Dashain and I spent this in a small village in the Chitwan area. People treated me like a member of the family and I met people who will remain dear to me. I have to say it was difficult to leave! Thank you so much to Fanindra and his family who made my experience of WWOOFing in Nepal amazing and unforgettable.' From Semra from Australia who was in Nepal from October 2003 till February 2004:
'I had decided to volunteer in Nepal after hearing wonderful things about the country from friends and colleagues who had visited the country. I wanted to experience a country rich in history, tradition and culture. WWOOFing gave me the opportunity to experience the daily lifestyle as a member of a warm Nepalese family in a small village in Chitwan area. My program included orientation around Kathmandu and living with a family allowed me to learn about Nepalese customs and their way of life. I spent the days volunteering on the farm where I was able to exchange ideas and knowledge in agriculture with my Nepalese colleagues. In my spare time I went sight seeing to the Chitwan national park, visited friends, attended a traditional Nepalese wedding and other traditional festivals. I thank WWOOFing Nepal for give me an unforgettable opportunity to make some amazing friends and be a part of a culture and way of life in Nepal.' From Kris from America, who visited Nepal in 2004:
'During a year of travel in SE Asia I would have to say that my richest experience was in Nepal during my time in the WWOOFing program. I decided to begin my journey in a small village in the Chitwan area with my host family. I was welcomed with open arms and hearts and treated like one of the family. Living in a Nepalese home is a gift to both guest and host. I worked, ate, laughed, danced and sang side by side with the people of my village and developed a love for each one of them in my heart. Cultural barriers melt away and you are given the opportunity to see who the people of Nepal really are. It is a great chance to break from the tourist route and really see the land and it's people, to live as a Nepalese person and to get comfortable in this magical land. I was fortunate to be in my village during the rice harvest and assisted in the harvest and threshing of this important staple. The region I stayed in is in the south of Nepal and is called the Terrai. It is relatively flat and temperate. Fruits and vegetables abound and the spectacular yellow of the mustard plants and purple of buckwheat blanket the landscape while backdropped by the snow capped Himalayas. The view is absolutely breathtaking. I am forever changed by my experiences in Nepal and I highly recommend joining the WWOOFing program to anyone with an open mind and desire to make a real connection to people of different cultures.'
